Positions!

In Ballet hand and feet positions are important.
There are 5 main positions for feet and even hands.

First position:
Feet: both legs face out and heel to heel together
Hands: extended in front of you, in lining with your chest, fingers slightly touching with each.

Second position:
Fee: both legs still facing out but leave a gap near each
Hands: the same but far apart, still in lining with your chest.

Third position:
Feet: in front of each, facing out
Hands: one in line with your head and the other stays the same as the second position.

Fourth position:
Feet: Still in front of each other but hips more closed, far apart from each other. Heels must be shown.
Hands: One on your head like in third position and the other hand the same as the first position, in lining with your chest.

Fifth position:
Feet: touch with each other, heel still facing out.
Hands: both in line with your head as the third position.

To hold these positions you need to leave your back straight so you won’t fall.

Jete!

To do a Full jete you need to be able to do a full split so you’ll have the proper lines.

You do a bit of a run step on one foot, push yourself as high as you can, open into split with your hands third or fifth position and push yourself down without falling. To keep yourself from falling you need to keep your back straight.

Practice it a few times a day and keep practicing your splits to help improving your jete!
I enjoy using it in some of my dances because it brings out more volume in your dance.
Practice and you’ll get it

Enjoy!

Splits!

To do a split, you need to stretch your leg muscles for a few minutes every day.
Important that you be warmed up and stretched out before you try doing a split.
There are a lot of different types of stretches, I usually start by sitting down on the floor and touch my toes like in this picture,

Then I open up into a Straddle position and do the same routine, trying to touch my toes,

These are other types of stretches you can do to help your flexibility.

After you're done stretching you can try doing the split, go down as much as you can but don't over do it!, and hold it till you can, I usually hold it for a minute or so.

Don’t rush to do it, for me it took 4 months to get it to full. It depends on the person; some people are flexible more than others. Just practice every day and you’ll get it

Enjoy doing your splits! :)
